AHEEOHKULA

what creature is this?

masked behind the strange colors

aheeohkula

brown outline of a mask, blue thick eyebrows, gold orbs encircled with red eyes, brown and red nose, green and blue mouth area, and black curved stripes on both sides of cheeks...Aheeohkula is the name of the being...a variation of ahee in Navaho means "thank you" while kula means community or tribe (it is also a place in Hawaii), the word "oh" joins thanks with tribe, perhaps indicating gratitude for being part of a tribe.

consider what "masks" we wear in our lives, like roles of parent and child, teacher and student, manager and worker, leader and follower, coach and player, doctor and patient, and so forth...if you attempted to combine the masks into one drawing, would it look like aheeohkula?
